Facts About Me

My Story

In Memory of Aggie Zittle.

The best friends transport is dedicated to Aggie Zittle and her best friend Alice. They met in grade school and their friendship lasted 65+ years.  They grew up together, had careers, raised families and experienced widowhood and divorce at similar times.  This brought them even closer along with a shared enjoyment of gardening, cooking, and BBC television to name just of few.  They were each other’s family and faithfully spoke every Saturday morning.  When Aggie was diagnosed with cancer she and Alice took a trip to Italy.  When the cancer spread, Alice was one of Aggie’s caregivers.  One of their regular outings was to the Artful Gardener and especially the Cabin Fever event benefiting Joyful Rescues.  They are big supporters and loved many pets.  Somehow stray or orphaned animals found their way to them.  Aggie would have loved knowing that every dog in this transport has been given the chance to be someone’s new best friend.

Aggie was born about June 5, 2016 and weighs 12.6 lbs.  This tiny little thing is adorable!  She is just wonderful with the other dogs here and having a good time running around the house and out back.  She managed the dog door with ease even with those short little legs.  Aggie is shy with us humans and will be shy with new humans, someone is going to need to give her a bit of warm up time and teach her that no one will ever be unkind to her again.  She is learning and every new humans she meets will reinforce that knowledge.  Aggie has met some kids and was fine with them, but it would be best if they weren’t too rambunctious – at least for awhile as she learns her new world is going to be far better than where she came from.  At least for now she isn’t one to walk on leash as when you set her on the ground with the leash she freezes.  She craves the comfort of a human lap.   This is all we know so far and we will be learning as we go.  The southern shelter feels it is embarrassing to ask questions when humans drop off their dogs as the reason is so often financial in this poverty stricken coal mining area of VA.

The Adoption Fee for this dog is $375.00

Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control – a ‘complete’ pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.

Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive – you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility.

We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption.
