Bo is a dog from working lines that came to us after he ‘flunked’ his medical evaluation and could not be used as an active service dog. Bo’s physical exam and radiographs revealed that he has some mild hip dysplasia, and while this may have prevented him from doing vigorous police work, it will not stop him from being an awesome best friend and loyal companion! He certainly doesn’t think anything is wrong with him, and he is active and pain free!
Bo’s foster mom says; ‘Bo is a kind, sweet dog that will never leave your side. His energy is boundless, but he will lay on his dog bed or next to me at night to wind down. He loves my cats, even if they don’t always love him back! If he gets to be too much, I just say ‘no’ or ‘back’ and he retreats. He is extremely intelligent and highly food and ball motivated, which is great for training. I have yet to come across a person he doesn’t like. Even in my car he willingly allows people to pet him. No aggression, no territorial issues. He lovingly gives kisses. I’ve taken him on many errands and he travels very well!’
Bo would do best in an active home with breed experience, as he is a large, strong, confident dog that responds well to an assertive owner who will give him rules, structure and guidelines. A fenced in yard is preferred.
Bo can be selective with his canine friends, and he does not tolerate much ‘sass’ from other dogs. If over-stimulated or challenged, he will react, and because of this, we do not know if he would do well in a home with another dog around 24/7. However, he does enjoy the company of our president’s personal female GSD while walking, hiking and riding in the car, so he may be okay with another well balanced, submissive dog. A few meet and greets will be required for anyone interested who has an existing dog in the home.
We honestly are head over heels in love with Bo, and anyone that likes this breed will think he’s just as awesome as we do. He is not only handsome, he is sweet and friendly, outgoing and confident, smart, affectionate, fun and playful too. He knows basic commands, is perfect in the car and walks well on leash. He was initially crated when his foster mom was away, but he has gotten better about being anxious when she leaves, and now can be left alone without incident. He LOVES his ball and will play fetch for hours… and when you’re all tuckered out, he is happy to entertain himself in the yard with his jolly ball. We have recently introduced him to dock diving, and he has a blast doing it! Really, he will do about anything for a ball! It allows him be active, burn energy, and use his natural talents as a driven working dog. Plus, the swimming is great for his joints as it is low impact. The facility we use is in North Ridgeville, and we would love for him to continue this activity if he is locally adopted.
Bo is 2 years old, 85 lbs., and is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, current on monthly flea/heartworm preventative, and dewormed. He is housebroken and crate trained.
His adoption fee is $250.
