Usually when someone says a dog dribbles, it’s not a compliment, but take a look at this picture of athletic Ernest. Doesn’t it look like he’s doing an awesome job of dribbling that tennis ball?
Ernest was turned in to the shelter as a ‘stray’ weighing an emaciated 33.4 pounds. In two weeks, he gained almost 10 pounds, until he reached his present weight of 42 pounds. Ultimately his owners were found and they surrendered ownership. It appears the other dog in the home was getting all the food, and they didn’t bother to step in and make sure poor Ernest got his share.
Despite his initial deprived start in life, shelter volunteers say this pretty boy has been friendly and fun when they’ve taken him out for walks and playtime at the shelter. He doesn’t seem to hold his initial adversity against anyone, and just enjoys himself wherever he is. Ernest loves to play, and one of his favorite games is fetch. He will wait until you throw the ball, chase it down very enthusiastically, then bring it back and give it to you to throw again. And if you don’t want to play, that’s ok too. He just figures out a way to entertain himself.
Ernest will be a wonderful companion for a person or family looking for a smart dog who loves to play active games. Visit www.hart90.org to contact a HART representative about Ernest and to submit an online application.
