This gorgeous jumbo sized pup is Junie! Junie was rescued from a high kill shelter in GA. Junie is very lucky to be alive. After she got out of the shelter, Junie stopped eating and it took us quite some time to diagnose the problem but we found out she had an intussusception. This is a disease caused by parasites and it caused one of her intestines to start enveloping over the other one. The symptoms are very similar to when a dog has an obstruction. Major surgery was required and then, much to our dismay, she ended up with a double intussusception which is very rare. Another surgery took place and we are so lucky that she made it out alive and is thriving now!! The result is that Junie has very little intestine but that is no big deal. She really loves to eat now!! Junie probably will need to have fecal tests more frequently than the average dog just to ensure that no parasites return. But, on to the good stuff about this sweet girl. Junie is probably about 1 year old now and is already weighing in at about 65lbs! She is probably a mix of a German Shepherd and lab. She just loves to play and loves toys and all sorts of things. She knows sit and is very eager to please. She is great in her crate – goes right in and waits for her treat. She is very food motivated and will need to be fed separately from any other animals. Because she nearly starved as a puppy she is now very serious about her food with other animals, but is fine with people. She would love to have someone to cuddle with her and spoil her rotten. She rides very well in the car. She loves, loves, loves the other dogs in her foster home. She would be fine with other dogs, however we do believe introductions would need to be done properly. Junie is definitely potty trained, however you can always expect a new dog to have an accident or 2 in a new home environment, just until they get used to everything. You can definitely tell Junie has experienced some type of abuse but we believe she will bounce back from that very quickly. She does well on a leash, but really could use more socialization outside of the house to become more comfortable with new things she encounters. Junie would really love to have a fenced in yard to play. Apartment or condo life would not be a good fit for Junie. She also needs someone to be around regularly. Junie is very active and energetic because of her age and needs someone that will make sure she gets all of the exercise she needs. Junie is a very special dog and has been through so much so we will do everything we can do to make sure she gets the loving, forever family she deserves. We feel like Junie would do great with kids, however, there are no children in her foster home currently so we don’t know for certain. If a big, energetic, gorgeous, love bug of a dog sounds like your idea of a best friend, then Junie is your gal!
Junie is spayed and up to date on her shots. She is in her foster home in GA right now and will soon be in her NJ foster home.
