Khaleesi was rescued from the shelter on 3/17/2017. She had been hit by a car and was severely injured. Her current owners didn't want her back, but her previous owners (they had rehomed her on their own) reached out to us for help. Her injures were more severe that we were originally led to believe- both of her hind legs were broken and needed to be repaired. Khalessi was unable to stand or walk, initially needing a lift to get her up, due to her weight and the pain. Even with all the pain, she was sweet and knew everyone was trying to help.Well, Khaleesi couldn't catch a break. She developed a MRSA infection, which interfered with the healing of her legs and required multiple rounds of Amikacin and surgeries to remove the metal implants originally placed to help stabilize her bones. She had to stay at the hospital for the duration and became a favorite of the staff. She loves attention and bonds very quickly to her caretakers. Now a year later, Khalessi has had her last surgery and wears a splint on her leg as the fracture continues to heal. She gets daily treatments with a bone simulator to help the fracture continue to heal- she takes off the splint for this treatment then it is right back on. She is on strict confinement and only allowed out for potty breaks and 10 minute leash walks and needs a sling to make sure she doesn't fall and injure her leg. This big beauty is a wonderful house guest at her foster home. She sleeps quietly between outings, goes potty easily on a leash, and is housebroken. She loves to be pet and loves to give kisses. Throughout this whole ordeal, Khaleesi has proven what a wonderful temperament she has and we are hoping she will finally find a forever family soon.
The minimum adoption donation for adults is $300 and the adoption donation for puppies is $400 – $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
